Navigation is hands-down the top dog in location-based services. Sales of portable nav systems in the United States are predicted to finish 2006 somewhere north of 2.5 million, more than double last year's sales. Earlier this month, however, NAVTEQ made its most dramatic move yet to reposition itself by acquiring Traffic.com — a roughly $50 million per year traffic supplier.
